Windfall apples and pears. Although I still have got some fruit left on my trees, I am amazed at the amount (three buckets to date) of unripened fruit that I have lost this year. I can't recall this happening before and wonder if it is only due to the wind or if he tree has some kind of underlying disease?

I agree with Bamboo, June drop and the high wind. the fruit that remains on the tree then have more space to get bigger.

A lot of those will be what's called June drop - if the tree has many fruits, it thins them out itself by dropping some during June - the more fruit present, the more it drops. In the south, some fruits will have been lost because of the drought during April and May.
