My Indian Bean tree flowers and branches grow bigger each year, and the width spread is now becoming a nuisance. When should I cut it back and do I simply prune the branches back to the desired length? Thanks!

I would prune right after bloom, to conserve the flowers for next spring.

Catalpas respond well to pruning and even quite mature ones will break freely from cuts. Pruning should be done in late winter or early spring. Bear in mind that young growth may be damaged by late frosts
