Happy New Year everyone, wow 2009 already. my question is this i have aquired an allotment and i will be digging it over asap and basically i have trawled through some books but if ther are any experts out there could you pass on to me what goes into the ground and when very basic i know but i have no idea. i will be growing nomal veg lots of salad and some fruits please help!!! thankyou jewells.

Hi Jewells,
Plan your allotment. Divide it into 4 parts, one for small plants, lettuce, onions beetroot, radishes etc. feed with blood, fish and bone 2 weeks before sowing. 1 part for potatoes, use well rotted compost.
1 for brassicas, put lime on before planting.
Leave 1 part fallow, but you can grow marrows on heaps, use compost.
At the top you may have rhubarb, soft fruit etc. this is a good place to put a shed.
Down the east side grow runner beans with well rotted manure.
