Fern Identification please
Can anyone help me put a name to these ferns please? I want to move them and putting a name to them will help me put them in the right place.
Thanks in advance.

Looks like I'm going to have to trawl through google images Tugbrethil. I bought 1 and 2 last year from B&Q = uk equivilant of Home Depot!! but label only said Fern for foliage.
Number 3 was a 'HUGE' fern in the garden of my brothers house. My S.I.L hates ferns so I split it up and brought some of it home with me. It needs more shade as it is far to zingy green, although it doesn't show up well in the pic it looks amazing with the foliage of my sambucus.

Ferns are really hard to identify Scottish - as well as the leaf shape and habit it often involves the shape of the spores as well. I love the zingy green of the last one!

Well, I'm far from an expert on ferns, since the only true ferns to grow well in my climate are the tropical sword ferns (Nephrolepis species). I do have a few ideas, though, so let me see how well they pan out:
#1~ Looks like images that I have seen of Autumn Fern (Dryopteris erythrosora).
#2~ The closest match that I can find is Dryopteris affinis 'Cristata'.
#3~ I THINK that this is an Ostrich or Shuttlecock Fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris).
Hope that this helps, Scottish!

Thanks Steragram for your comments. The zingy green looks amazing in the sun!
Tugbrethil...I've googled all your suggestions and I think you have come up trumps! Habit and growth etc all match and images are very similar.
I had a feeling that 1 and 2 were Dryopteris of some sort. Most of the images of the Shuttlecock Fern show it very erect - however, I managed to find a few where they were not. So Bingo!!!! Pat on the back for you :)
They will be moving to a new home in a bit more shade, but will keep one of the zingy green ones for effect.
Thanks again :)

Hey, if I got that lucky this week, maybe I need to take a quick trip to the nearest casino!! Other parts of my life militate against that, though. : /
