can pond irises be planted in the garden

I did. About three years ago there ended up too many in my little pond so I split them and put some into a border (nowhere near any water) and they have grown and flowered. They're not as tall as the ones in the pond but that could be that the pond is under apple trees which mean the irises would have to grow tall to get the light. I gave some to my daughter who has kept them in a bucket of water, and again, they are still growing and flowering.

I would say only if you have a bit of the garden where there is a damp corner. It is one of the plants that thrives in my 'problem patch' where there is very poor drainage.
