Hi, please forgive my considerable ignorance but I have just moved into a new house and inherited several plants that I know not the name of, not being a gardening person. This looks like a very common plant, can someone identify it for me please? thanks

It looks like my Armandii, evergreen clematis. I could be wrong, someone better than me will come along and id it :)

Thanks to you both. Quite a alot of the leaves underneath are brown. Presumably I can just pull them off as they're obviously dead? I really look forward to next spring when it flowers!

I have to prune mine quite hard after flowering because it's a strong grower and I have limited space. Even so it's amazing how much it growth it makes through the summer! The flowers make it worthwhile though, although I do get the occasional bad year when it's a disappointment.

It looks like clematis armandii and if so it will give you wonderfully scented flowers in early spring.
