The majority of the bees visiting my garden seem very small this year and my friends are saying the same thing. Is this widespread ( I am in NE Scotland) and if so, does anyone have an explanation?

When will we learn the lesson that using pesticides kills the good insects as well as the 'bad' ones... Though there is also a ?virus? affecting bees.

i agree moon and the lessen is try and work with nature not against it as nature had been doing it right for millions of years before us humans came along . now look . there are more than one type of bee and you will find they pupate into the size that they were when they were grubs . honey bees are on the way out as we are taking there food away and there nests . theres a place in china wear there are know bees and they have to grow fruit trees and litteraly polinate bye hand . with know polination there will be know people or any other higher animals . ive been thinking about getting a bee hive as it goes as its the least i can do .

We have no honey bees visiting us this year, but we've observed an increase in the number of bumble bees - they seem to be doing most of the pollination.
