a weed is starting to smother the plants in my back garden , could you identify it for me ?
I have no picture but it seems to be growing quite fast and it has long shoots that stick to clothing and other plantsand lots of little green ball type buds

And I know it as cleavers or goose grass. We used to wear green wigs of it when we were children or see how much of it you could stick on a sibling's back without their noticing.
Just keep pulling it out, but you need to be aware that it tends to break off just above soil level, leaving the roots in the ground for fast regrowth. It's better to try to get the roots out as well, if you can.

And try to get it out before the little sticky seed heads form, or there will be masses more of it next year... which is a job I must really get around to Tomorrow!

Sounds like galium aparine, also known as goose grass, very invasive but easy to pull out, but use gloves as the stems can soon cut your hands. derekm
