Hellebores, impatiens, and beregenia are good for shade.

I'd second the idea for hellebores which I love, and add in some pulmonarias, snowdrops and some other woodland bulbs for the spring. ...ferns maybe? Is it dry or damp shade I wonder?

Some ever Greens like shade & look fab given a nice Colour all year,Why Not Browse a Nursury/Garden Centre&check out the label of something that catches your eye?Youl be surprised @ what ul find :)
