I have quite a number of horse chestnuts in my garden which are all infected by the famous leaf miner and certain seem also to have the black canker ! Is there anything I can do please.

If you mean hirse chestnut leaf blotch and horse chestnut canker, there are currently no treatments available for these. If the canker is present, the tree will eventually need to be removed.
