Need some tips for what to put in my two smallish raised beds in courtyard garden. They get full sun in the first half of the day but are mainly in shade....don't think the soil is too bad but planning to enrich it....want a country cottage type feel where i don't have to renew every year. Going to use lots of lovely pots too! Any suggestions?

Fuchsias, hardy geraniums, hostas, heucheras, euonymus fortunii, bergenia, spring bulbs (not crocuses though as they only open in full sun) Sure there will be lots of other suggestions.

Penstemons are good in part shade too, and come ina vatirty of sized plants. You could put pinks along the front to break up the edges, with violas, and then put the taller plants at the back. Hostas would be good to give some foliage interest. Coreopsis and rudbeckia would give you a good splash of bright yellow/orange. All these will come up again and again, and give you a lovely display. Have a look at the garden pictures, as these will give you lots of good ideas. Annie

Moisture retaining gel and Tricrytis and Lobelia.
Aconitums are as hardy as they come, Digitalis and Ligularia too.
