What's wrong with my container rose? I have a Jacques Cartier rose bush in a container. When I first planted it last year, it bore beautiful, pink roses. This summer, the edges of the leaves went brown and the buds all shriveled up and never formed flowers. What could this be down to? Is the container too small? Did I not water it enough? Is it a disease? Please help. I love this rose when it's in bloom!

Probably being in a container - this one wants to get 4 feet by 3 feet, and roses like to put down deep roots. If you can't put it in the ground, try a container which is 2 feet deep and 12 inches across as a minimum and keep it well watered - the browning of the leaves round the edges and shrivelling of the buds suggests not enough water.

I have the same rose and it is my favourite. It struggled in it's container but is much happier now it is in the ground.
I also had the same problem with Crown Princess Margarta of Sweden and Munstead Wood which was absolutely laden with flowers earlier in the year but is now struggling in a pot, but it must wait until the new border is ready.

Well, right now it is a lot greener with the all of the rain we've had lately so does make me think I wasn't watering it enough. It's even gots some buds on it but whether or not they'll develop, it's too soon to tell. The container is only 12 inches deep. I think I'll have a look for a bigger container or consider putting it in the ground. Thanks for the advice!

Difficult to advise you as we need more information - size of pot/compost, feeding etc- and a photo of the problem would help?
Lots of things could cause bud problems such as too much rain or watering can cause deformed/swollen buds that dont open.
