I grew them last year in large containers using multi purpose compost with 2 seed potatoes in each container lovely spuds about 2lbs to 4lbs so not sure whats going wrong, I did notice now matter how much i watered them they were still dry when harvesting so i think in pots they really need plenty of water.

Yes - water is the key - they need gallons. When I grew spuds in containers I ended up watering them twice a day with a hose pipe - really drenching them each time.

hey bulbaholic
I looked at them, but I still end up buying the pop up bins from the pound shop, keep your eye out for em if your passing ,they grow them fine, at a pound each im on my second year and they are still going strong, as soon as the spuds were ready I empty them out into a wheelbarrow , add some chicken pellets put soil back into bags and seed carrots in them

I'm not sure if that is multi-skilling or good crop rotation, Maccrimmon! Whatever, it is a very good idea and I will try and adopt it.

you will need to use lots of well rotted manure and soil mix,and earth up as they grow.we have had some success with this but prefer direct into the ground .maybe the seed potato was not siutable for containers....just a thought.....................steve
