That's a gorgeous tree, Marina! It is deciduous, so I hope the leaves are just getting ready to drop.

If it's been suffering from the dry and mixed up conditions we've had for the last 6 months or so, it's too late to do anything about it now.

Newly planted shrubs and trees need to be watered enough for the water to reach the roots, maybe a foot underground. If it dried out earlier in the year there's not a lot you can do now except hope that it's OK and make sure that you give it enough water (when it is growing / has leaves on) for the next year or so.

If you can get hold of a piece of plastic pipe, about twelve to eighteen inches long, bury it vertically next to the tree (about as far away from the trunk as the branches extend). When you water the tree, pour water into the pipe until it is full, let it drain and repeat several times. This will get the water down to the roots instead of just wetting the surface of the soil.

The woodland trust are describing this year as a Double Autumn.

It is about watering...........But I think the light levels are a bit odd this year. I hate summer as I get Migraine usually, this year None so far.
