I think you would need to talk to Pete & Adrian about this - also who would be judging them? Personally no I wouldn't this is a friendly site and we all share photos I would not want to see it becoming competitive.

There is photo comps on another gardening site im a member of, it works brilliantly but, because members can add there pics in one blog, (not possible here) meant it was easier to view and then vote for the pics. The winner chose the theme for next month and there were no prizes, We congratulated the winners and there was a lot of banter and competiveness but the more professional pics didn't allways win :))) it was great fun.

Photo's are a bit tricky on here.

This is a gardening club (really)...and competions are fun!

The entrants could be anonymous until after the decision and the members could be the judges! :)

i love looking at photos of other peoples plants and try my best to match them and ask for tips , or give advice if ive grew something worthwhile, will put more pics on soon

I do not think contests on this site would be a good idea.

A GoY Calendar would be good though. There are some great pictures....I pull up my chair, cup of coffee and think I will have a quick peep...and hours later I am still looking.

You mean an actual printed calendar? I never sue one... I rely on the one on my computer.

Yes a printed one....I never use the computer one. We could buy it and help fund GoY.

Do you all realise how much time it would take not just to create the calendar but print and distribute... I doubt it - get real this is a no brainer!

It would be easy to make your own Calender! An easy option would be to Copy 12 pics from GOY, Make a Mirage and print it off your computer, or copy onto a pen and get it printed at asda or any photogaphic shop. You can buy a small Callender, you know those little book one's, and stick it onto the bottom of the printed pic..Wallah...

How to copy pics onto your computer...

right click, Click on. "Save image as"
A box will appear with your computer photo album, Click "save"
A box will show that you have downloaded to albums, and thats it, Easy...

I have made a Collage from my albums in Photobucket. Ill write a blog and include 2 examples for those who are interested :)))

Youngdaisy, I like the Idea of all of us having some input rather than doing something solitary and permission may need to be sought from the contributor, some may not want to have their Photo's used.

I just thought there are so many lovely pictures (not just perfect ones) that relate to all of our experiences of gardening. Most of the calendars for sale are by Pro photographers and stylists....Our pictures are real. I would rather buy one from GoY and help maintain the site that we all like, than give ASDA the money for printing one off...

Still it is just an Idea.

Hi pimpernel :) All photos on GOY or any other forums dont belong to you once uploaded, Anyone and i mean Anyone can copy your pics, thats why we should be carefull what we upload!! Also to make a Callendar for all of GOY to buy would be a massive job and expensive, Who is going to take it on? Also thats why I suggested we could make our own for the cost of a couple of quid, we dont all have printers, so I WILL give asda my money, maybe if we dont shoot other peoples ideas down GOY would be a better site, ive spent all afternoon making a collage and trying to upload to GOY, Ill just delete it, Thanks!!!!

I was thinking, to make a calender from GOY pics is a good idea but, there's only 12 months in a year, so only 12 pics, right, who would choose the pics and would anyone but the 12 whos's pics are chosen buy one? Thats why i suggested an alternative, we could make our own personal Calendar's if thats what we want..
re the photobucket collage, the pics wont upload onto GOY :((( Im gutted lol..

I have already got my own pictures, so it would not bother me if none of mine were were selected and as there must be a huge back catalogue that I have not seen, it would point me to new (old ) postings.

Everything about this site seems to be about sharing moments with each other, there are some well established friendships, but I am amazed at how welcoming GoYers are of everyone... and it comes through in the pictures.

Shooting down peoples ideas is a tad unfair, maybe it will come to fruition maybe not...but all ideas are good to discuss, just the same way as we all discuss our plants etc...we don't all like the same plants that members grow, or maybe agree with how different Goyers go about different ways of growing etc, but the site wouldn't last as long as it has if 'sharing' wasn't the key word....Winter is fast approaching and just maybe some light hearted fun wouldn't do any harm....

Me too Bilbo...I'm sure there's lots we can all get up to, and make a dreary Winter pass just that little bit quicker :)))
