How is Syringa x persica rated for hardiness. I live 400m up a NE Scottish hillside so have to pay attention to hardiness ratings. I have one or two H4 plants in favoured locations but for more exposed sites I stick to H5. None of my many books talk about Syringa x persica

I am in a similar location and lots of folk around have lilac trees, but usually well sheltered behind fences/walls and in sunny spots.

Good to know you are up a Scottish hillside and not in Italy!

Here in the States, they are known to be hardy to -39ยบ C.

Tugbrethil,
OK that clinches it. We have had two recent winters when we needed a JCB to clear snow from the track down to the road so I get twitchy about hardiness issues. Plants like Embothriums prosper here even though they are blanketed by 2 metres of snow each year. Then I think, well they do come from the Chilean mountains so they should deal with a little Scottish snow.

I love Italy but I prefer to live here!

You had the Italian flag showing earlier... now you need to switch to the Saltire!

Yes, do not know how that happened. Not paying attention I hear a small voice saying. I have remedied my error and now show the Union Flag. Did not see a Saltire option!

OK I see it now, thank you. I have an appointment with the optician this Thursday.
I have added a pic of Darcey the Beagle who enjoys racing around when I am "playing" in the garden.

« Damaged Lily I've just accidentally snapped one of my lilies in half. Whoops...
Next question
It's just as hardy as the common lilac, so if they survive up there, this should too.
