For summer, tuberous begonias do well, and up to this summer, I'd have advised Busy Lizzies as well, but they've done very poorly in most areas this year. Trailing lobelia hang on in there in shade - they don't do as well as in sun, but they try hard.

Are these to replace summer plants that have gone over Tony? Also are the 'shaded areas' in sheltered areas of your garden, bearing in mind frost is expected early again this year,& lots of it?...sorry to be the spectre of the feast as some enjoy this current tropical weather, just erring on side of caution to save any disappointment,& money too.

Ooops! Nothing like reitterating. Ah well, wont hurt to lash out on some cyclamen praps if you dont live in a frost pocket. Rich colours. Saves deadheading. They tolerate the shade too. Can mix n match with viberant violas,or pansies, some beaut colours on sale this year, both of these do need deadheading to keep them blooming, though the latter require less time to pick over.

Trailing ivy with winter violas should be ok for shade.
