12 ft Leylandi Gardendreamer,
Sorry Moon Grower and Oldcrock I love leylandi when well looked after. I have attached pics of my two hedges to which I have been told by the Council Enviromental officer they must be chopped down to 1 metre height, as per the new Model Standards 2008 for parkhomes. They claim escape access is not adequate in case of fire, but you can get over a 1metre hedge!!!!!!!There are 27 homes here and all hedges to be chopped down.Gardendreamer I think one phone call from you to the Enviro: Off:will solve your problem.

Errr - are you asking a question, Ian?

Each to their own, Ian. These hedges do nothing for me. If you live in a caravan park I can quite understand your Environmental Health guys looking to protect your safety if one of these chalets catches fire.

A car full of petrol or diesel is more of a hazard than a hedge. Will the 'elf and safety' police ban those next to your caravan?

Hi Ian - I think you are 'sort of' responding to another GoYer's concern regarding a leylandii hedge, which is what has confused folk. Ian a properly cared for leylandeii hedge is a joy... most are not and 12 foot between two gardens is, normally, not acceptable.

Hi Ian each to their own, but a 12ft leylandii is to much, to close, and can cause damage, the height of an hedge on a carvan park regulations are different than regulations on a ordinary house cheers

Sorry I dont see any beauty in this at all - just a distortion of a tree that can grow to more than 35 meters. Mobile home parks need/have very tight restrictions due to fire risks and should be enforcedm and I think you should be grateful the council is keeping the whole site safe as many dont.

Interesting debate.
I'm a Leylandii-hater after our own experiences with uncared for specimens, but my "wow" above is sincere admiration and respect for a gardener who maintains his hedge far more beautifully than I can. That arch bit is sheer class.
I agree with M Grower, - most people have no idea how to keep them in check like this, and even then they take every nutrient from the soil. Let's all agree to disagree.
