I have Saponaria 'tumbling Ted' I found it was slow to take off but well worth the wait. After it flowers in the spring I give it a trim and it flowers again late summer, but it takes some years to get to this stage.

Sorry I didn't welcome you, didn't notice you'd only just joined, Gs. As Drc says, trim over once its finished flowering - actually, what am I saying, give it a jolly good haircut unless you've got loads of space for it to cover! Something to look forward to, despite its invasive habit, its beautiful when in full flower, I have it here. I did cut mine back hard, but its every bit as big now as it was before I did...

I just realised I said early April for flowering - I have to tell you that this year, everything's late - I seem to recall it flowered last year mid April/end of April, not early April, but I suspect it'll be mid May this year, no sign of flowers yet.

I see from my dated photos that mine always flowers from the beginning of May

I went and closely inspected mine today - yes, there are tiny buds present - difficult to see, but they're there.

Will grow very well in richer soil and there will be the odd flower on new shoots as the year progresses. I planted one this year from a 3 inch pot and it has grown to a tumbling two feet down a stone wall.

If you mean Saponaria ocymoides by tumbling ted (known here as bouncing bet), it flowers early April - if you bought the plant later than that, it may have finished flowering before you planted it.
