Can anyone suggest garden shrub for a shady spot, soil good, grows to 5 ft and is evergreen. thanks

my Griselinia has nice bright green foliage. Might grow a little over 5 ft.

If you want to try something a bit different, drimys lanceolata is dead easy (featured in my list of plants with pictures)

you coud try osmanthus burkwoodii, glorious fragrance too, sarcococa, euonymus, pieris japonica Katsura.
