When should Crocosmia begin to show signs of life?

United Kingdom

I bought six crocosmia George Davidson a few weeks ago, in pots. I came to plant them out today, and thought they didn't look too good - loads of woodlice in the pot among the roots. No signs of leaves or anything above ground yet - how long should I wait to see if they are alive?

Mine are up about an inch. I am in the mild South-west, so yours may still pop up, if you are in a colder area.

I do hope they are still alive. Give them a chance.

My common or garden 'montbretia' type are up a few inches but no sign of 'Lucifer' yet.

Sorry - I meant Crocosmia 'George Davison' and 'Lucifer' are up about an inch+ - the 'common' Montbretia is up and running about a foot or more!

Wood lice won't have done any harm and, once your Crocosmia start, you'll spend more time keeping it in check than getting it to grow. They are tough as old boots and will grow just about anywhere.
