Can you plant a new eucalyptus on the site of an old one

Hi
Planted an unknown eucalyptus in our garden it dies back when it gets really cold and then regenerates in april but only get one season's growth and that's no good to me.
We have found a really hardy snow gum we want to put in it's place. I know Eucalyptus can be toxic to other plants but does anyone know if I can replant a Eucalyptus in the site of an old one?
Thanks
Ray

The hardiest one is Eucalyptus gunnii but it can reach 25 metres. Do you want one so big? we had to remove ours as it uprooted a wall!

« I think it is the Dickonia antatartica - it was around 6 foot tall when I got it...

Specifically, I don't know but would have thought that if you can't there wouldn't be much forest in Australia.
