During mild winters, my abutilon carried on flowering, but the last two have killed it right back to the ground. As it is an established plant, it has tried to grow back again but has really struggled to get going again in the cool summers

Best grown as a conservatory plant, but don't let it get too hot in direct light.

The red and yellow kinds are pretty near tropical, and have a hard time surviving temps below -3ยบ C. The hardier species of Abutilon is the blue kind, A. vitifolium.

These are not very hardy and, depending where in the country you live, they may not survive a hard winter. My neighbour had one for many years, but it was seen off by last winter's weather. The best place to try is a south facing wall.
