Hi Everyone,

You may remember that I planted some bulbs a couple of weeks ago, Peacock Orchard and Anenome, in plastic pots, I am keeping them in my utility room at the moment and I would like to know when they will start to show anything, I am such a novice with bulbs. I have just lifted one little bulb out and it still looks the same as when I planted it, is this normal? Many thanks for your help.

Peacock Orchids take a long time to grow,Marion, and I grew them for the first time last year..they don't flower till late summer,so you will have to be patient..!..They will appreciate a warm position and light,so I put mine in a growhouse when weather conditions improved..water moderately, and don't plant them out till end of May..I grew mine in a pot,and am overwintering it under cover, for this year..hopefully ! you can plant them in a sunny position in the garden, but it's doubtful if they will survive in the cold and wet,of a winter..but hey, they are cheap enough to do new ones next year, and are well worth the lovely display....sorry, I haven't grown Anemones...good luck.:o)

The Peacock Orchid (now called Gladiolus Callianthus or Acidanthera as it used to be) doesn't flower until late in Sept/Oct so it is unlikely to be showing anything yet.
Not sure which anemone you have, but they, too, can take some time to show.

No problem,Ojib..at least we are on the same wavelength ! Lol...mine were called Acidanthera too,but Peacock Orchids in brackets ....I wish they would stick to one name...it can be confusing sometimes ...

Hello Marion ... which anemone are they? Anemone blanda are planted out in the autumn for flowering early spring. But there are numerous others under the anemone heading. Japanese flowering anemone for example - a tuber spreading variety - takes ages to sprout but then flowers until the first frosts and will spread.

Hello Noseypotter ... not a bad 'guess' at all, but at your level of knowledge a guess is as good as a confirmation!
