What is the proper name for soup celery and where can I buy the seed.

In Northern Ireland we call it 'soup celery' but I don't know what it is called in gardening catalogues and don't know where to buy the seed. I did get a packet called 'par-cel' from Nicky's Nursery but am not really sure if this is what we call soup celery. This is all very strange because we can buy soup celery in virtually all greengrocers here. So it definitely hasn't gone extinct.

Hi, I'm new to this site, I found it yesterday and as a not very proficient gardener it's really helpful. I searched the Soup Celery plant and I found this site with loads about celery www.innvista.com/health/foods/vegetables/celery.htm
and it seems to be Apium graveolens var. secalinum
If you paste that into an image search page you can see lots of pictures and make sure that's the right plant.
I hope this is helpful

Dear. Libba. What you are looking for is. Gaint red celery. Not a lot of seed suppliers stock it. You can get them from. THE REAL SEED CATALOGUE. AT WWW.REALSEEDS.CO.UK .You may discover that they my charge you a little extra for postage because you live in Northern Ireland. Not on the mainland. But then again everything has a price to be paid.P.S. Dont eat the GREEN Leaves. They my choke you. But if you make the soup enjoy it. Good Luck. And GOD Bless.

Okay if you can buy it what does it look like Libba? Does it look like normal celery or os it a large root? If a root it is celeriac.
Alternatively if you can buy it at the greengrocers ask what its proepr name is.
