Hi ive seen a shrub with dark green floiage and long pink/red flowers, its a very pretty shrub but the flowers smell awful (to me anyway) almost like cat wee, can anyone tell me the name please my mum and I are racking our brains to remember the name.

It'll definitely be flowering currant - Ribes sanguineum. My mum could never stand the smell and called it the "cats' pee plant" - it's very strong, and I can just about see the connection, but I quite like it

Hi i noticed some of this stinky plant in a car park near us and when we went to the isle of man a few years ago it was rife there, i wouldnt have the shrub myself as it turns my stomach over, thanks for the replies

We do have but at the back of a deep border where it looks very effective. I certainly wouldn't want to stand next to it :-(

Could it be a flowering currant? (Ribes of some kind?) That's the only one that smells like that to me, anyway.
