can I prune an acacia mimosa dealbata?

I think my tree is beautiful and it smells amazing in winter, but my neighbour has complained about it's size and spread. (It has grown very rapidly to 40 foot). Is it likely to get any bigger and can I prune it? Your help greatly appreciated.

Yup, Definitely a dealbata. I have this problem with a lot of my shrubs. Am I using too much compost???!!!

My RHS book says that they grow to between 50 and 100 feet!!!!
Unfortunately, it also says that Acacias resent hard pruning. You can, however, 'trim' it after flowering - I guess that's now, is it? Be careful not to cut it back too hard.
