Still time to sow tomato seed?
I was looking at a hanging basket variety, 'hundreds and thousands', but I'm not sure if I should sow seed or wait and buy plants at this stage.
I don't want to be too late with them as I did that las year and I ended up with only a small crop at the end of the season for a *lot* of effort (more effort than any other thing I've grown).

Thanks. I don't mind the effort from seed but I don't want to do anything considered 'late' with tomatoes ever again, if you see what I mean :)

Just sown mine today.
Lack of sun doesn't affect ripening. It's warmth, not sunlight, that causes ripening. In fact, shading is recommended in greenhouses to ensure that the tomatoes don't get too hot which can slow down the ripening process and cause greenback.

yes there is time to sow seed. I am putting mine in this weekend.
The young plants you can buy in the gc now are going to need protection from the cold so they are still quite faffy to look after.
i enjoy the challenge of growing them but if you prefer to buy the young plants then go ahead. :o)
