Could anyone recommend a low-growing, reasonably long-flowering plant with small pink flowers? Pale pink or deep pink fine . . . similar to Phlox subulata (which I have)?? It's to grow under a new Cherry tree, in neutral/alkaline soil; full sun. Thanks!

How low growing, Sheila? I've planted various pinks around the garden, and I'm astounded that after such a horrid winter, they are already away and flowering, with lots of cushions of fresh green leaves and dozens of buds. Lots of different shades of pink, too, and wonderful scent.

Thanks for the suggestion, Scotsgran.
Pimm's thank you too . . . I have a different Gaura, but this one looks gorgeous! I love the dark stems too. :))

Thank you Gattina (we were typing at the same time!). Well, I was thinking 4" - 6", but in fact 12" would be OK. My Dianthus (if that's the same thing?) have grey leaves which look a bit of a mess the rest of the idea, but I'll look out for a different type - good idea!

I can't tell you what variety we have here, Sheila, I'm not that clever, but they only grow about 6" high, and some of the tiny alpine ones are even smaller.

Thanks again Gattina - I do love the fact that they have a wonderful scent! (but your Avatar is still making me shiver ... any chance of a warmer one??) :)))

Parahebe? Or one of the pink flowered Helianthemums.

Thanks Bamboo. I do love Parahebe 'snowcap' but think most of them are (probably) too tall, as the new bed is only about 2 ft across.

I was thinking of Parahebe lyalli, which only gets about 8 inches high.

Oh right - I'll Google it - thanks. :))

I couldn't find it anywhere, in the end I ordered it from Perhill plants online.

I don't want to tempt providence by switching to a warmer avatar, Sheila! I'll have a look through my pictures and see if we can't warm you up a little!

Cor, that's much better, Gattina...

I've been weeding among the raspberry canes this afternoon, Bamboo, and planting loganberries, so I thought I'd celebrate all the good things to come.

THANK YOU Gattina . . . much better!! Glad that Spring has arrived for you.

Take a look at this website for some less well known plants. Full description and photos make it easy to look at.
