I live in Albuquerque and want to plant a gaura. Any concerns?

On plant Gaura lindheimeri

It looks like this plant is native to you and in these conditions can grow to 3 feet high and 3 feet wide, whereas where I am in the UK it doesn't make anything like this size.

I gather it is a late flowering plant. It needs to have plenty of sun in its early development in order to do well with its flowering - and not be competing too much with other plants. I think you have a lot of sun where you are, so as long as it is not choked out by other plants when it is young it should do very well.

I have heard it is not all that long lived but that it is easily propogated from seed or cuttings.

This is all from the internet and not from personal experience, do you have a garden centre locally you can ask ? I don't know for example if is it invasive where you are. I have seen it recommended as a good plant to have here though.
