Hi all

Thought I would get my first question in, and it is;

I am thinking of uploading pictures of my garden but I was wondering how to tag them or indeed, is there a tag already for this category ( I haven't fully found my way around the site yet)

Let me give you a bit more info;

I keep my pictures filed as a pictorial diary so that I can see each year if a plant or plants are in front or behind of the current year.

So I was thinking of uploading my pictures in the following format;

My Garden in January, My garden in February etc is/are their a tag/s for such a situation? ....Tg

Hi I have been following your lovely photos and yes you can upload them a daily, weekly, monthly or even a seasonal, yearly blog its up to you.
But I went to your home page and saw that you do not seem to have found your own plant list yet? It is under Garden at the top of your home page.
This is where you can add individual photos of your plants in alphabetical order. To do this go to options at the top of this page and select 'add plants' you can then add the plant name and some details with or without a photo (you can always add photos later). Also when you post your photos you can scroll down and add it to your plant list via the 'Not a picture of anything in my garden' which will have a list of plants you have already added.

Its a thought but I am not really into 'blogging'

I had one many years ago but then decided to build my website.

I see my website as one big blog, simply because gardening is cyclic, and the same happens at more or less the same time every year.

I developed this trait to form the basis of my website, whereas my 'Pictorial Diary' is for looking back at the results I have had over the years, rather than how I produced what I see.

When I upload photos of flowers in my garden, I include the year in the title of the photo and give the month I took the photo as a tag. For example, title: "anemone nemerosa - 2012" and tag "April", so now I know the plant was in flower in April 2012

Hi Drc my reply to Pam must have been sent just as you were sending yours.

Thank you for your reply!

Can I reply to your reply in bits so that I can get to understand site procedure!

Quote 1; Hi I have been following your lovely photos and yes you can upload them a daily, weekly, monthly or even a seasonal, yearly blog its up to you.

Reply 1; Thanks for the complement and yes I can deal with that.

What I didn't make clear was the pictures I had planned uploading were taken over the last few years and then I was going to add 2012's as the year progressed.

Is this practicle?

Quote 2;But I went to your home page and saw that you do not seem to have found your own plant list yet?

It is under Garden at the top of your home page.

Reply 2;Yes I found that earlier but was not quite sure what ii was for!

Quote 3;This is where you can add individual photos of your plants in alphabetical order.

Reply 3; Is this not a duplication of my 'Photo file but alphabetically?

Is it possible to go to other members files like you did to mine and see how they do it, or are their home pages 'private'?

Quote 4 To do this go to options at the top of this page and select 'add plants' you can then add the plant name and some details with or without a photo (you can always add photos later).

Reply 4; I can't see I will be doing this as I usually add such information when I upload my photos, so again is this not duplication?

Quote 5; Also when you post your photos you can scroll down and add it to your plant list via the 'Not a picture of anything in my garden' which will have a list of plants you have already added.

Reply 5; I read "Not a picture of anything in my garden" as just that! That is; I took it to mean; that if I visited someone elses garden I indicated thus to differentiate between my garden and any other.

Sorry for appearing so dense but I would like to get it right and not confuse people.

I look forward to your reply and the guided tour.

Rhanks in advance....Tg

Hi Tg, Replying to:
2. It is to record the plants that grow in your own garden with or without photos. It also flashes up on 'Favourite' members pages that you or they have added new plants to your/their garden.

3. The plant list is of the plants growing only in your garden, while the photo list is of plants and other items which may or may not be in your garden for example it may be photos of a garden you have visited.
Yes it is possible to go to a members homepage and look at their, profile, photos, blogs, questions, garden (plant list) and their favourites. To find this just click on their Ativar and their home page comes up.
4. Its entirely up to you how you use this site you dont have to use all the options if you do not want to.
5. No - that is so that when you add a photo you can go down to "Not a picture of anything in my garden" and scroll down that list till you find your entry for that same plant, click on it and it will add the photo to your plant list. Hope this is helpful to you Cheers Denise.

I hope you don't mind me adding a wee bit in here :)
Once you have added a plant, you can add as many pictures of it as you like - so say you have 5 pictures of the same plant taken over various years - you could label each picture with the year and then save. You also have the option to select which picture will represent this plant in your plant list. You or others can then view all the pictures available for this plant by clicking on the plant in your list.
There is the facility to give your plant 2 names, both common and botanical - you can also add notes.
The down side I have found to notes facility is that if you edit your notes at a later date - the botanical name seems to be removed and you have to re enter. Unless I am doing something wrong that is :))
I found it quite difficult to start with but soon got the hang of it - try a practice run - you can always delete!
