Cockchafer damage

We have had an invasion of maybugs (cockchafers). They swarm around our trees at dusk, especially a large walnut tree and have eaten all the foliage from the top of the tree. Is there anything we can do to prevent them damaging the trees. Also the larvae in the soil have killed a number of young trees we think. I have uploaded a picture showing some of the bare branches.

According to article on-line only pathogenic fungi or nematodes will control the larvae. Sorry I couldn't find anything further but you may be able to find more info elsewhere.
