Poor cherry tree blossom

In my front garden in Hertfordshire I have an 8 or 9 year old cherry tree (type nknown). It now stands about 10 feet tall with a similar spread. Every year it comes into blossom in April but only lasts a week before all the blossom has gone - why ? What can I do ?

Yes. That's normal. That's what they do.

thanks for your replies - I thought they should last longer than that - I see them down the avenue adn they seem to show beautiful pink blossom for ages - oh well

It's a shame they were not Prunus subhirtilla autumnalis, mine has been in continuous flower since Christmas!

That is what cherry blossoms do when the weather is warm - nothing you can do apart from appreciate its fleeting beauty.
