I have just turned over last years compost in one of my large pots and the soil contains lots of little yellow balls.
What are they?

I learn something every day - i thought these things were vine weevil "eggs" and I've spent ages searching them out and squeezing them ! In fact I was orinally told that's what they were by a neighbour.
I'll just slip round and give him a good kicking.

As I think I have mentioned before, the identity of these little yellow balls is one of the most frequently asked questions on all the gardening sites. I wonder what people will make of the little multi-coloured ones I have just been mixing into my Alpine potting compost?

Had the been white then I would say it was well worth while squashing them, as these were likely to be slugs eggs.

Most like the residue of the slow release fertiliser that was in the compost when new!
