My castor oil plant leaves are turning brown and brittle. New leaves are like this before they open. It is about 9 years old and in good soil, well drained. What can I do to bring the leaves healthy and green?

« Jasminum This is a current photo does it need pruning or is it too late.
I'm assuming you're talking about Fatsia japonica, and not Ricinus communis (castor oil plant). assuming there's no possibility of soil contamination by something,
most likely your plant is being affected by the cold weather this year - new leaves may have been caught by frost, and they will be susceptible to serious damage if that happens.
