I have a beautiful clematis but the bottom of the plant is very full. Should I cut back or just leave alone? If okay to cut back what time of year?

I think I would leave it alone for now, especially if it is in bloom. Look under C at the bottom of the page. There are different times and methods for pruning different clematis plants.
