A rather large rose bush outside the front of my house got damaged by heavy winds and a large stem snapped I would like to try and save the broken stem and start a new plant can anyone tell me how to do this ?

Hi Wrong time to take cuttings sorry to say but you are wasting your time.

Hardwood cuttings taken in the Autumn is best with roses. I know what you are going through the winds here are realy bad I have been tying rope around the Laburnum tree thats only 5 years old to stop it rocking in the soil, every foxglove plant in flower are bent over ...

Glad I took the baskets down yesterday and put in the greenhouse they would of been like bells in a church in full peal !!!.

Apply a splint to it!

Use a bamboo cane and tape it with insulation tape( or similar) a few times along its length.

Plus; at the break wrap some more insulation tape directly on to the branch to prevent disease getting into the heartwood.

With a bit of luck it will graft its self together again!
