which plants can I use that will come up every year and cover a lot of area?

My garden soil is rather rough and has a lot of roots in it due to the surrounging trees - (we live in the grounds of a college) - we also have wild rabbits which eat some of the plants we put it.

Yes I agree. The geranium macrorrhizum varieties clump up well and are easy to split and make new plants but lots of others are good too.

Lamiums are good. a yellow one called Herman's pride will certain cover a lot of ground.
