its growing in the corner of my garden and is showing deep pink poss red buds. it grows quite tall over 6 foot at the min and is 3 or 4 shoots deep. this one is close to the floor. the higher parts as yet are not budding

thanks for that. i dont mind it growing big. if i trim it down after flowering will it encourage it to bush out?

Yes trim it lightly after flowering and I take out the oldest woodiest branches too. About one third of them normally. A lovely shrub.

its a lovely shrub called weigelia. when it has finished flowering you can prune it back to fit the space you have or you can just leave it to grow bigger and better. :o)
