how fast

welcome to GoY.
I had a placement at Kew's millenium seed bank and i worked with date palm seed and they took about a month to germinate, if my memory serves me right. but you are talking 5+ years to get a decent sized specimen.

thanks for the reply im going to have a go at growing a couple from seeds any tips on food ?

sorry i cant help there. I was just involved in stating them off in differeing conditions and checked viability of the seed.
i'm sure some one will know.
