I grew some of these from seed from my sisters garden. They are supposed to be Verbascum. Is this right or is it something else? I thought Verbascum were much taller. The first flower is out and there are lots more buds. The leaves are grey and furry.

its Silene coronaria. It is a lovely plant and seeds freely. It is not a very long lived perennial about 4 yrs or so, it has several common /local names eg dusty miller, rabbits ears etc.

I think your plant is Lychnis coronaria, I don't think it is Silene.

Thanks Wyeboy That's the conclusion I came to, but the coronaria bit gave me a clue and helped me to find it on the Internet.

I think it goes by both names, Wyeboy and Chris.

I think Lychnis and Silene are different plants.
