I'm sure it will be incredibly difficult because of the enormous number of varieties there are, but if anyone knows the variety of this Rhododendron , I would be delighted to know.

It is difficult to see from the photo but is the flower a double one? There are a couple of double-flowered rhodos I have seen - R.fastuosum 'Flore Pleno' and a double form of R.ponticum

Reading Andrfew's respnonse I thought 'double - nah'. Looking again it just might have an inner ring of petals?

I have reposted this question with a close-up of one of the flowers. The leaves are light green on the underneath.

Rhododendron russatum is a medium sized rhododendron with a flower/leaf size ratio similar to yours, Bernard. Are the underside of the leaves a reddish brown colour? I don't know if there are any cultivars from this Rhody.
