Twisted willow dying back and bark cracking. Terminal?

Help! I have/had a beautiful twisted willow which when we moved in 7 years ago had branches draping almost to the ground. In the past few years it's started dying, and now it's less than half the size it was. The bark has big cracks along it and seems to be lifting off, is this the cause or a by product? The leaves that are there look fine. Any ideas?

It could be willow canker. Is it possible to prune out the affected branches or twigs? Give the plant a good feed and mulch to build it up again.
