One more Q, I have a clematis armandii apple blossom, am I right in thinking it grows on a single stem? ok this is 2 Q's lol, i want to grow it up an arch, what size pot should i put it in? its about 4 - 5 feet at the mo.

No, it doesn't grow from a single stem, BBM, though it probably is at the moment - often when you buy them, they've only got one stem. It'd do much better in the ground, but if it has to be a pot, make it 18 inches deep and 12 inches wide as a minimum. You'll probably find it throws up more stems next year.

Lovely plant - clematis armandii apple blossom -

I have never thought of growing one over an arch, they seem a bit vigorous. But, thinking further it should give a thick covering. Interested to see how it goes.
