ants are invading my lawn..any remedies?

Answers

I noticed ants in my lawn this year must be the wet conditions. I am leaving alone as I think they will go in time.

I too have had loads of ants this year, somewhere I read that putting baking powder on them kills them....they explode!!!.....I did just that and they went...btw try putting baking powder on slugs...they explode as well!!!!.

I prefer to kill ants with boiling water on account of anything else gives them such a nasty slow death (they can't help being ants!) You can't do boiling water on your lawn so I'd just leave them, it'll soon be time for the flying jobs to take off and then the rest will go and play somewhere else.
Also watch your lawn in case you have wagtails pecking about, (black and white, small tails, wag a lot) -if so let the birds do their work!
BTW, baking powder on slugs??? Expensive! Half an orange rind turned upside down overnight, slugs under it in the morning, feed them to ducks and hens!

I find the whole thing about using boiling water on ants is downright utterly cruel. There are other ways of getting rid of them.

DRC I put boracic powder down where they were coming in and it does deter them. I stopped them coming into the food cupboard once like that too. Don't know if you can still get it but thankfully I still have a packet half full. Wouldn't work on a lawn though as Tess says. And boiling water would kill the grass as well as the ants. When you have them in the garden there doesn't seem to much you can do except wait for them to fly away, which they should be doing soon if this nice weather holds.
