Bottle Brush plant pruning

Hi - can anyone tell me how to prune a bottle brush plant? It is in a container and is a bit rangy. I am afraid that if I cut it back I will not get any flowers.

~Apparently the right time to prune is just after flowering.I pruned my standard quite late in the year and then of course we had a very cold winter.Whilst not looking fantastic at the moment it has got some new shoots so fingers crossed. Mine had got very long branches too~I only wish I had pruned earlier and put it under cover.

Many thanks - mine has only just started to flower. It was a rather sickly individual when I inherited it with long and lanky sprigs. It is looking better now and as soon as it has finished flowering I will give it a 50% prune - to learn how it reacts!

You don't say if you've had any flowers yet - mine's been going for a couple of weeks now, but maybe yours is later. One of my book says you can prune back to size or shape in "mid summer" I take that to mean July.
