what this shrub is called. It has only just started flowering. I've searched on line but without success, so maybe one of you will recognise it. Sorry the picture is not very clear. Thanks in advance

It's a bit blurry, the picture, I mean. If the leaves are evergreen, then it probably is Escallonia and might be the one called "Apple Blossom".

Wagger - Bamboo thank you both so much. I have compared the picture with the one on Google and it is indeed Escallonia "Apple Blossom"
You've made my day!

Thank you also, I am trying to find out when to take cuttings and how, maybe you have the answer to that up your sleeve. This Escallonia is growing in the front garden, and I would love to have it in the back where I have a slope and there is room for a few more shrubs, then I would be really happy.

cuttings are easy. select non flowering shoots. cut off 4". remove the leaves from the bottom 2". place around the edge of a pot with multipurpose compost or similar. keep watered, not too wet and wait. put about 6 in a 3" pot and i reckon at least half will root. you can use rooting powder if you want but i have never needed it.
