can i lift a sad looking agapanthus and put it in a pot?

That would depend on how long you have had it in the ground, if it,s been there for a year or two, then it,s likely to have quite a big rootball, and they are fleshy roots that break easily, plus you would need a large pot.
Why is it looking sad, some are hardier than others, and if yours is one of the more tender ones, it may have been knocked back by winter frosts.
If you decide to lift it I would wait until autumn when it,s finished flowering, if it has flowered that is, but still wait till autumn. Derek

I had one like that a while back. I left the main part in the ground and took small bits from the outside and put them in a medium sized glazed pot. I now have 5 magnificent deep blue flowers. Not that quickly though. The parent plant has dispeared without trace.
