I am bewildered, i have grown some Peppers in a Grow House ,quite a success, they were coming along fine, about the size of Golf Balls on 3 plants approx 2' 6" high. Went to give them some feed and tender loving care, you know ,serenading, reading them sonnets, etc. When to my utter amazement, they were gone, every one of them.I don't know if they have escaped or what, Advise please on what could have happened to them...

Can birds get into your grow house? They are immune to the capsaicin which causes the heat and are often happy to eat them. Insect or gastropod damage? But most would eat the leaves as well. Any neighbours very fond of curry? otherwise, unless you find them lying around at the base of the plant, I am as baffled as you.

mice or squirrels? certainly a squirrel took a capsicum last year and sat out of reach eating it.

Personally I think it might be your serenading!!

Whoops , missed the reference to golf balls, unless of course the birds were vultures. Maybe Cammomile is right then, doubt if the thief like sonnets. If they were that size though I can only think of two legged harvesters. Or maybe Seaburng. is right. Tree rats or genuine rats or mice. In swarms?

Which sonnets were you reading? Maybe you chose the wrong poet.

Its got be the Sonnets , They obviously don't like Shakespeare.. Or Squirrels, they have raided my Strawberries the other week, there is a plague of them, but i never equated them with Peppers...Thanks all for the responses, will have to try reading other Sonnets as a back up.. Did Milton write any ??

Don't think Milton wrote anything smaller than about 12 volumes. :o))

Slugs and snails more than likely. Even in our polytunnel the pepper fruits get chewed around the stems of the fruit and the tops of the fruits. It doesn't take much to sever them completely. But there should be remains on the ground unless they have eaten them completely.
But as every single one is gone, I'm very tempted to believe that terrible pest, Homo sapiens, might have a role. Would anyone else have access to your grow house who might have thought this a joke to do?
