has anyone ever seen wild strawberry in the "wild"?

Yes, lots of, here in Scotland. They are much smaller than the cultivated ones but full of flavour.

Yes, I walk along local shepherd trails and now know where to find patches of wild strawberries. Rule Number One: Never leave the house without a carrier bag containing a couple of lidded freezer boxes, a pair of gardening gloves, a small garden fork and several small lidded containers - you never know what you might find!

thats good, i havent found any yet near me, just blackberries! thanks to you all now i know to keep my eyes open for them!
Nariz i always have everything with me for a walk in the woods, found some sloe trees yesterday now just to wait until they are ready and have a go at some sloe gin!

Not only do we have a wild strawberries in the wild, but also a large variety of wild flowers growing along the hedgerows and banks. Things like campunalas, sheeps bit amongst others. Things I never saw in England.

we have wild strawberries growing by my drive way. I suspect birds as the main source. they grow wild all around here on chalky soils. we have loads of british natives here 2nd hand. and far too many want to grow in my garden too :o)

so far its not going too well but im keeping up the search! i was outside a childrens play park and found a tomato plant with toms on it!

Yes and no. I have seen it wild at my school (late 1990's). We have a woodland and between that and the school buildings is an area that was covered in Brambles and alpine Strawberries. I cannot say for certain that they were Alpines or escaped garden varieties though.
